Period Panties
Summary of answers to questions about menstrual underwear
Jan 19 , 2022
Can I wear my period panties on my own/without extra protection?

Depending on your menstrual flow, menstrual underwear can completely replace or be used alongside disposable menstrual hygiene products (panty liners, pads, tampons). It's all about understanding your menstrual flow and what level of absorption is best for you.

How many pairs of menstrual underwear do I need?
It depends on whether you use them alone or with other menstrual hygiene products, and how often you change them. If you wear several pairs of shoes a day, you probably want enough to last for a few days. If you can wash about every two days, you can reduce the number of pairs of shoes you need.

Can they be used for bladder leaks?
Yes! If you experience mild bladder leaks (such as when sneezing or jumping), you can catch these leaks by wearing menstrual underwear. They're breathable, odor-resistant, super-absorbent, leak-proof, stain-resistant, and wick moisture away from your skin, leaving you feeling dry and fresh throughout the day.

Can they be used for postpartum hemorrhage?
Pure use and dressing are certainly fine, but the amount of postpartum blood loss varies from person to person. We recommend that you purchase resorbable underwear and use them as a backup during the first week of life. Then you may be able to keep using them on your own. They certainly don't go to waste because you can keep them and use them when they return.

Will they feel different than my regular panties?
The gusset is only a little thicker than regular underwear, so it only feels slightly different.

How do I wash my period panties?
Period underwear can be hand washed or machine washed. Rinsing dirty panties in cold water before hand/machine wash will help remove as much blood as possible and prevent stains. Then you can toss them in the washing machine, cycle through cold water gently, and hang them to dry.

How long does a pair of menstrual underwear last?
The lifespan of a pair of menstrual briefs varies greatly depending on how they are cared for and how often they are used. Generally, they will last from 6 months to 2 years, depending on washing and care. Underwear is considered a delicate product, so elastics and threads can be damaged by abrasion. However, this does not affect the effectiveness of the built-in absorbency of the gussets.
